The Landing Page Part II: How To Make A Landing Page That Converts

By July 1, 2016October 1st, 2026No Comments

I’m sure by now you’ve read my last post about why you need a landing page for your business. You’re convinced, excited, and ready to go…but you don’t know where to begin! You need to know how to make a landing page that converts.

Making a landing page takes more than a few paragraphs and a button to get customers to convert. Think of it as a puzzle: you’ve got to assemble lots of little pieces in just the right order so that everyone can see the “bigger picture,” which is your brand and the product/service you have to offer.

Luckily, Sweet Rose Studios has compiled a map of those pieces. Build off of this list and learn how to make a landing page that your customers will love!

1. USP: “Here’s What I’ve Got”

This is your opportunity to really grab your customers’ attention and let them know they’re in the right place!

Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) conveys a one-of-a-kind story about your brand. It exists to convince customers that they’ve never seen anything like this before.

Don’t overwhelm them with too many words; too much text could bore a prospective customer and lead them to abandon your landing page if it takes too long to figure out why exactly you’re the answer to their problems!

Here’s an example of the USP (and hero image) for LaffCo. Painting, a painting company in Plymouth Meeting, PA:

Keep your USP short, sweet, and to the point. Make sure everyone who comes to your landing page knows what makes you the best!

2. Hero Image: “Here’s How It Looks”

You can have the best USP in the world, but in today’s visual society, a landing page without a hero image is just plain boring.

It’s your job not only to tell customers why you’re the best, but to show them! Pull a high-quality image of your product, or use sources like Shutterstock or Depositphotos to “find” professional photos available for use on your landing page.

3. Benefits: “Here’s How It’ll Help”

Now that you’ve drawn customers in with your USP and eye-catching hero image, you’ve got extra space to elaborate on your brand.

Use a series of bullet points to outline the benefits of selecting your goods or services, or break each point down into a series of columns.

Remember to keep each benefits section attractive! Stick with a color scheme that matches your logo, and carry that scheme throughout the page.

Add relevant images, or perhaps a 360 video that allows customers to see your product in action firsthand! This is your chance to really drive home what it is that makes your brand the best.

4. Social Proof: “Trust Us”

Ask clients for reviews of your product or service. Feature these reviews on your landing page to provide social proof to your prospective customers that your brand truly is the solution to their problems.

This is another section that can be spruced up with a few images or a video interview of customers raving about your product.

5. Call To Action: “Here’s How To Get It”

Finally, it’s time for the call to action (CTA). While I have this very important piece of the puzzle featured at the bottom of the list, it actually works best when strategically scattered throughout your landing page.

Create a short form for customers to fill out and submit in order to receive your product. Throughout the landing page, add a button or two which links to your form.

If you’re using a landing page builder such as Unbounce, you may have access to a wide variety of CTA options, such as a button which links to a Lightbox that pops up over the landing page, prompting customers to submit their information.

Landing page builders such as Unbounce provide creative CTA options, like this attractive Lightbox

To make your CTA really stand out, you should rely on the RGB color wheel. Remember how I mentioned the importance of choosing a color scheme that fits with your logo colors? Select the color on the opposite end of the RGB color wheel from the primary color used in your landing page. That should be the shade you use for your CTA.

Another very important detail is to make sure that your CTA is uniform. If your first button is for clients to “request a quote”, don’t make your second button an option for clients to “subscribe to our newsletter.” Not only could this potentially confuse customers (“I’m here to request a quote…why are they making me subscribe to their newsletter???”), but it also distracts from the main goal of your landing page. Keeping CTAs uniform ensures that there is zero confusion as to what type of good or service you’re offering.

These basic puzzle pieces can be assembled to create a landing page that skyrockets your business to the top. Now get out there and build a landing page that converts!
