Three Steps To Kick-Starting Your Email Marketing Campaign

Kick-Start Your Email Marketing Campaign

There’s a new currency in the modern world of online commerce.

Email addresses.

In today’s digital world, having someone’s email address is the best tool to have when building your client base.

But how do you get your hands on those emails? And what do you do once you have them?

Sweet Rose Studios has compiled a list of three simple steps to follow when building your email marketing campaign:

1. Ask, Ask, Ask (aka The Rule Of Three)

First things first: how do you begin collecting emails from your audience?

The answer is ridiculously simple and yet still quite complex: just ask.

However, there are certain ways to go about this. Aside from simply having a “Contact” option on your website, find a way to inundate your user with requests to give you their email address on your website.

Add forms to your landing pages, or use one of the myriad of online tools available to you specifically for creating content that helps generate leads. “LeadPages” has several pre-designed templates you can use to create a new landing page to help boost conversions.

Don’t be afraid to ask repeatedly! A well-formatted landing page that requests the user’s email might look something like this:

  1. A sidebar to the right of the content contains a short form where the user can enter their name and email address
  2. As the reader scrolls down the content page, a pop-up appears, suggesting that providing their email address would give them access to more info just like what they’re currently reading, with another short form to enter their info
  3. At the bottom of the page, there is a button leading to the “Contact Us” page, or a larger form, in which the user can enter more information, such as their name, email address, and a description of what they were looking for that led them to your side

Keep in mind the “rule of three”– asking a user for their email three times in any given leading page will significantly increase the odds that they’ll give you what you’re looking for.

2. Share The Wealth

Don’t just make the task of collecting emails all about your needs!

People are wary about handing over information if they don’t feel they’ll be getting something in return.

Simply asking for an email is ineffective. Requesting an email in exchange for something that will benefit the user will provide them that added sense of comfort that they’re not just throwing out their contact information willy-nilly.

Offer a free how-to PDF download, a discount off of their next purchase, or a subscription to your blog, which you can guarantee will help them out down the road with issues similar to the one that brought them to your page.

Show the viewer that you care about them from the get-go. That’s the best way to gain their trust and convert them to a client down the road!

3. Make Them Feel Welcome

According to a recent study, subscribers who read welcome emails are significantly more likely to purchase future products or read future emails from you.

Welcome emails are read 42% more often than other promotional emails. Those who do not receive a welcome email are only 5% likely to read future emails from you!

Although reading a welcome email is not a sure lock-in for a future client (recipients only read future messages at a 50% rate over a 180 day period), their increased engagement simultaneously increases your odds of converting at least a handful to clients.

Welcome emails don’t necessarily need to include any promotions or other benefits in them. However, depending on your industry, it might not hurt.

Run a few lead tests to see which approach works best for your brand. Regardless of whether you find it beneficial to include some form of offer in your welcome email, the timing of your next promotional email is important.

Send out a promotional email within 48 hours of your welcome email. Doing so has the potential to significantly increase conversions, as the user’s interest in your brand is still piqued within this time frame.
