The Psychology of Conversion: Simple Triggers That Entice Customers to Act

ArrowYou have a great product and a target audience. But do you know how to drive conversions? Taking a few minutes to understand the psychology of conversion commerce can drastically affect the numbers of conversions you drive on your website!

Explain The Benefits

Explain to your customers how your product will improve their lives. Help them weigh the benefits and costs of purchasing your product. In a few catchy words, explain to the customer how their life will be better once they purchase your product.

One of our clients – Summit Roofing & Siding – offers an example of this in a recent post on their blog. They inspected a New Hope rooftop when a homeowner’s insurance company refused to cover damage caused by Superstorm Sandy, and helped the family get a revised credit for a full roof replacement! In calling this out, they show how their expertise can improve a customer’s quality of life.

Tell Them What They’ll Miss If They Don’t Take Action

In an age of mobile devices and constant connection, many people tend to suffer from FOMO (“fear of missing out”). Nobody wants to feel like they won’t be up-to-date on something, or like they won’t have or know something everybody else does.

So hint at the consequences of not taking action!

Keep It Simple

Don’t saturate your page in text, images, and choices. This causes a sensory overload and your potential customer may suffer from choice paralysis as a result. Keep their options simple and clear-cut to minimize time prior to conversion.

Create A Connection

Reach your customer on an emotional level. One of the most effective ways of doing this is with images. People are drawn to images of other people, so show your product being used in a way that helps customers see how this product could improve their lives. Additionally, when we see images of other people, we tend to follow the person’s gaze. Use this to your advantage!

Highlight the customer through images and content. By connecting with them and by using these simple psychological tools, you can make it easy for them to reach the decision to convert!
